Weather forecasting and monitoring of severe weather phenomena, like heavy storms, high seas and gale/severe gale force winds. A high attention is also given to tropical cyclones checking their formation from an early stage. As soon as it becomes evident that the track of the cyclone will cross the ship route, the client will be alerted about it by the forecaster well in advance with an “advanced warning”. The track and intensity of the storm/cyclone is continuously monitored and updates are sent to the captain and/or the operative Fleet Operations Centre at shorter time intervals when crossing the most critical areas in order to take all the necessary precautions. This could lead to the need to follow an alternative route or change the itinerary, taking also fuel comsuptions on longer routes and other logistical matters into account.
