Basic Level

Course Programme

Theory and exercises covering the following topics:

  • The general atmospheric circulation
  • Basic elements of marine meteorology: pressure, temperature, humidity;
  • Wind and sea;
  • Clouds and weather fronts;
  • Meteorological navigation: the positioning of the boat in respect of the weather systems;
  • The Mediterranean Sea: a deep knowledge of its characteristics;
  • Weather information available onboard: listening and understanding weather bulletins and direct observations by the captain;
  • Forecast the weather on the web: data and meteorological models;
  • Exercises on actual weather events by means of bulletins, synoptic charts and weather models.

Location: Navimeteo training centre at Marina Chiavari (GE), Italy;

Duration: 1 day, the course is normally on Saturdays

Time: 09:30-17:30 (lunch break: 12:30-14:00)

Minimum 4 people, maximum 10 people (when the minimum number is not reached, the fee will be returned within 7 working days from the date of the course)

Advanced Level

Course Programme

Theory and exercises covering the following topics:

  • Description of the most important elements of marine meteorology;
  • Deeper description of weather phenomena, long range sailing and insight on the specific topics requested by the participants;
  • Exercises of events that have actually occurred by means of bulletins, synoptic charts and weather models;
  • Route simulations.

Location: Navimeteo training centre at Marina Chiavari (GE), Italy;

Duration: 1 day, the course is normally on Saturdays

Time: 09:30-17:30 (lunch break: 12:30-14:00)

Maximum 8 people (if this number is not reached, the fee will be returned within 7 working days from the date of the course)
